Sure to be a popular choice for summer afternoons, the Harpoon UFO Hefeweizen is for drinkers that want a little pep in their beer and can do without the emphasis of wheat. It seems to be a higher priority to Harpoon to drench the beer with fruity ingredients, adding a zing that comes off as unnecessary when a Hefeweizen should be less tart. It’s got a stronger citrus taste than the Widmer Brothers variety, but the presence of wheat is what I felt Harpoon lacked. Not to say that the Harpoon Brewery hasn’t put out a respectable beer with this Hefeweizen. The sign has been previously owned but not displayed. Traditionally served with a lemon to complement the citrus taste yielded from the yeast. Other than that, not much else is going on. Windsor, Vermont, United States UFO (Un-Filtered Offering) Hefeweizen is an American style un-filtered wheat beer. There is a bit more hop bitterness here than I usually find in an American style Hefeweizen. The crackery malt body is smooth and very drinkable with a slightly tart finish.
